After years on the Zambezi we decided to spread our whitewater wings and explore Mt. Kilimanjaro. We realized that we would be able to create a trek to the “Rooftop of Africa” unlike any that were being offered – with our magic touches and signature style! We guided our first group climbing to Uhuru Peak on Mount Kilimanjaro, elevation 19,340 feet, in 1998. Since then, with the input of everyone from our Tanzanian porters to the world’s top altitude experts, we have developed the best Mt Kilimanjaro trekking itinerary offered – one that enhances safety and acclimatization, is less-crowded, passes through the most beautiful terrain, and encourages success!
Bio Bio Expeditions was chosen by Wilderness Medicine to outfit all of their Kilimanjaro field courses for doctors and nurses. We consulted with high-altitude experts Dr. Howard Donner and Dr. Gene Allred to create the safest itinerary possible. We are one of the few outfitters to be part of the air ambulance rescue association for Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. When we climb Kilimanjaro our experienced guides carry a Gamof bag, satellite phones and oxygen tanks.
Our on-mountain accommodations on Kilimanjaro are top-of-the-line. We are in constant radio contact with our base in Arusha and we monitor everyone on the climb with pulse oximeters. Our guides have extensive knowledge on high altitude safety. We boast a 95% summit success rate and nothing gives us more joy than climbing to Kilimanjaro’s Uhuru Peak with our guests. After the thrill of the trek up this iconic peak, we unwind in beautiful lodges and enjoy an incredible Tanzania African safari.
