Rachel Moore

Rachel Moore was born on the south island of New Zealand. Ever since childhood she has been in the outdoors – whether sailing, hiking the mountains or paddling. She discovered the world of whitewater while in college in New Zealand. Rachel longed to go to Nepal and figured going as a river guide would be the perfect way to see the country. So, she set out to become a river guide – not knowing at the time that it would lead her not only to Nepal, but all around the world! Almost every great river guide is also a kayaker and Rachel is no exception – she is a competent, confident Class 5 River Mama! Her whitewater skills are top-notch and they are matched by her supreme regard for safety, her command of rescue techniques and her sense of adventure and fun.   Rachel has done numerous first descents, in both rafts and kayaks, on remote rivers all over the world.   Rachel was a member of the New Zealand Women’s whitewater rafting team which has won a handful of first place victories. Additionally, she sits on the New Zealand Board that grants guiding licenses to new guides. She is on numerous rafting committees and her expertise is much sought after. Since whitewater has become her livelihood, (when not guiding she is teaching whitewater skills at an outdoor college in New Zealand), Rachel goes to the mountains or the ocean to relax and unwind.   Off the water Rachel is a thoughtful, caring, and fun member of the team. She welcomes one and all with big smiles and is always there with a helping hand. She loves to watch our guests blossom on trips and is eager to help them be better paddlers and learn more about the river. When we’re lucky, in the evenings Rachel will show us the ancient Maori art of fire poi, or fire dancing!
