Nepal Adventure Vacations

“The surging waves and thunderous holes serve my quest for connection with natures awesome power.” - Dr. Stephen Gunther, California

Experience rafting and hiking in Nepal in the Himalayas in one of the most exciting white water rafting destinations anywhere on the globe. Join us on an unforgettable trip on the Marsayandi, Sun Kosi or Karnali Rivers!

The Marsayangdi River in Nepal rises on the Northern slopes of the Annapuma Himal, flows east through Manang, and then swings south to join the Trisuli river at Mugling. Marsayangdi means “raging river” in the local dialect, and this aptly describes the Marsayandi flows. This is a fantastic run for an expert crew. Looking up river, one is consumed by magnificant and constantly changing views of the Annapuma and Manaslu Mountains. This river has only recently been opened to the public and Bio Bio Expeditions is one of the first companies to offer rafters this unique adventure!

Nepal’s “River of Gold”, the Sun Kosi River, rises high near Mt. Shisha Pangrma in Tibet and runs east through the great Mahabharay Lekh Mountains and the Himalaya. It forms the watershed for most of eastern Nepal. Gathering strength as it collects tributaries draining the highest mountains of the world, it emerges onto the Northern plains of India where it joins the Ganges. Together they wind down to the Bay of Bengal and into the Indian Ocean. Beautiful scenery, unique cultural encounters, and exciting white water make the Sun Kosi one of the ten best rafting and kayaking rivers in the world. To run the Son Kosi just after monsoon must rate as one of life’s most exhilarating experiences.

The far west of Nepal is one of the most remote and least explored areas of the Himalayas. Only recently opened to foreigners, this region offers some tremendous challenges. The Karnali is the longest and largest river in Nepal. It rises high in Tibet near holy Mount Kailash and then descends from high Himalayan snowfields through a series of spectacular gorges. Finally, it emerges onto the Terai flowing through Royal Bardia Wildlife Park. The river continues across the northern plains of India to join the Ganges and the Bay of Bengal.

David Allardice and David Knowles wrote the definitive guidebook on whitewater in Nepal and have many first descents between them. They note:

“Nepal is a river runner’s paradise - no other country has such a choice of multi-day trips, away from roads, in such magnificent mountain surroundings, with warm rivers, a semi-tropical climate, impressive geography, exotic cultures, wildlife and friendly welcoming people! But it’s not just the rivers - as anyone who has been there will tell you, Nepal is a magnificent holiday in its own right - a fairy tale land of culture, colorful people, medieval villages, superb craft shopping, great food and sights - the bonus is some of the World’s best rivers!”
