The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is among the most popular treks in the whole world because of the natural beauty of its surroundings and for being the main route which connected the Inca Empire with this important religious and political center.
This alternative trek allows you to travel the last 13 miles of a legendary route, surrounded by a cloud forest, with plenty of flora and fauna diversity and important archaeological remains, such as the impressive ruins of Wayna Wiñay. Your tour ends when crossing the entry of “Intipunku” (Gate of Sun), as we reach the citadel of Machu Picchu, masterpiece of architecture and Inca engineering, considered one of the seven wonders of the modern world. We recommend this option for those who have little time or for those looking to visit the famous Inca Trail without camping.
Day 1 – Cusco to Aguas Calientes
In the morning we take the train from the station located at the village of Ollantaytambo to Km 104 of the railway, the starting point of our trek. First we pass by the ruins of Chachabamba and then begin a four-hour ascent. Along, we have a spectacular view of the Urubamba Valley to finally reach the magnificent ruins of Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young). From this point we continue our tour by one of the best preserved sections of the trail, through a wet cloud forest full of variety of flora and fauna. Finally we cross the entry of Intipunku (Gate of Sun) after which, we find an unforgettable sweep of natural beauty and human artistry: the magical city of Machu Picchu. Finally we board a bus to the town of Aguas Calientes.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Cusco
In the morning we take a bus back to Machu Picchu, to learn more about this fascinating, surprising and mysterious Inca settlement, built in the fifteenth century as a religious center and palace for the Inca Pachacutec. Optionally, you can climb to the summit of the mountain Huayna Picchu, from where you get the best view of the entire Inca citadel. In the afternoon we return to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Cusco.
