Japan Ski & Snowboard Adventure CME

Continuing Medical Education in Japan

There are a variety of reasons Japan powder skiing is at the top of many skiers’ and riders’ destination lists. The island of Hokkaido is legendary for arguably the driest and most consistent powder in the world. Enjoy uncrowded ski resorts and our English-speaking guides who transport us to the best daily snow conditions.

For this trip, we have strategically chosen hotels in the towns of Furano and Otaru to serve as our hubs. Each day, our guides will assess the best nearby conditions and powder, as Hokkaido is known for its micro storms and varied snowfall within small areas.

You will experience six days of skiing at up to six different resorts (it depends on where conditions are best!). There are limited spots for advanced skiers and riders (who have extensive experience skiing off-piste in challenging conditions) to upgrade to a guided side country experience (that requires traversing, but not hiking to return to the ski lifts).

In addition to the legendary skiing, this trip offers a fantastic cultural experience. Our guides will arrange group dinners each night and assist with menu selections for those eager to try new dishes. Our chosen accommodations feature in-hotel hot springs and are conveniently located for exploring the quaint towns of Furano and Otaru on foot.

The Wilderness Medicine CME lectures will be held every afternoon or evening before dinner in a nearby meeting space.

ITINERARY SNAPSHOT

JAPAN POWDER CHASING SKI TOUR | WILDERNESS MEDICINE CME

The itinerary below is our planned schedule, which is subject to change depending on factors such as weather and conditions.

DAY 1: Arrive in Saporro (CTS Airport), where one of your guides and a private coach will be waiting to whisk you away to the adventure. You’ll arrive at our centrally located Hotel in the early afternoon, where we’ll begin the first engaging sessions of the wilderness medicine course. We’ll finish the day with a group dinner at a nearby restaurant.

DAY 2-3: We’ll choose from the finest resorts in the area, including Furano, Tomamu, Sahoro, Asahidake, and Kamui Ski Links. Our guides will keep a keen eye on the forecast, selecting the ideal resort based on current conditions. After an exhilarating day on the slopes, unwind in the soothing in-hotel hot springs (and cold plunge!) or explore the charming town before joining the CME lectures from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the hotel banquet room. Your guides have you covered with dinner reservations (and menu suggestions), ensuring a delectable end to your day in Japan.

DAY 4: After another epic day skiing, we’ll embark on a three-hour private transfer to our charming new home, the scenic port-side town of Otaru. Situated canal-side in downtown Otaru, our hotel offers easy access to various dining, après, and nightlife options, ensuring an unforgettable experience.

DAY 5-6: Just as we did during the previous three days, our experienced guides will select the most enticing resort from Niseko, Sapporo Kokusai, Teine (site of the 1998 Winter Olympics), and Kiroro. If conditions permit, we may even venture to the pristine, lesser-known slopes of Tenguyama and Asari. After a thrilling day on the slopes, indulge in the soothing in-hotel hot springs before attending the CME lectures from 4:30 PM to 6:45 PM each evening at a meeting center a 7-minute stroll from the hotel.

DAY 7: Ski until 1 PM at the most promising resort among Niseko, Sapporo Kokusai, Teine, Kiroro, Tenguyama, and Asari. Afterward, we can either drop you off by private vehicle at Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport (airport code: CTS) by 5 PM or assist you in extending your trip with extra ski days near Niseko or exploring another captivating part of Japan (we highly recommend Kyoto!).
