Two of us just returned from a week with BBX on the Futuleufu. Fantastic! But you must know this is not the normal multi-day river trip. It's a tremendous base camp from which numerous activities are possible each and every day: rafting different segments of the FU is central on both easy and much more challenging water, but horseback riding, short and longer hikes (some spectacular), and flyfishing are all in order--with small groups ranging from two to twenty. The guides are tremendous and each brings both global experience (Zambesi, Peru, western US, Bhutan) and special skills (professional yoga instruction, two amazing successful professional musicians, etc). The camp itself is special: hot tubs, sauna, separate library, individual semi-isolated tents on rain-sheltered platforms, home-cooked meals on-site twice daily. To repeat, this is not the usual multi-day river trip with successive daily stops, but it is multiple days of remote outdoor activity, all with special people from a special spot on a great river and a couple of its tributaries. We're going planning to book another different trip with BBX and we're planning to return to BBX on the Fu next year

My husband, Guy, and I traveled to Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia with Bio Bio Expeditions in October of 2018. Our experience with the adventure company was, in a word, extraordinary. The Safari Lodges Bio Bio contracts with are top notch in dining, room accommodations, service and photographic safaris. One of the highlights was spending a full day in Botswana's Chobe National Park. First we climbed aboard a boat and took a 2.5 hour tour of the Chobe River just upstream from the confluence with the Zambezi. We were struck by the richness of the fauna both in the river and along her banks. Hippos, crocodiles, monitor lizards, cape buffalo, antelope, and too many species of bird to count. We then climbed aboard a safari vehicle where we were treated to an awesome three hour overland look at the park's terrestrial residents. We literally saw herds and herds of elephants, a few giraffes, many zebras, lions, wildebeast, sable and impala. We even had the good fortune to spot a leopard lounging in the branches of a tree. We camped several nights along the mighty Zambezi, first canoeing her flat water, and then rafting her thrilling Class III - V rapids. What a rush! Guy and I truly cannot say enough good about Bio Bio Expeditions. Over the past twenty years, we have traveled to Chile, Peru, Ecuador, The Galapagos Islands and Tanzania with Bio Bio. Each trip was wonderfully staffed and extremely well orchestrated. We may never use another adventure travel company.

5 star ratingBeyond Expectations! An absolutely incredible trip!! It completely surpassed our very high expectations. The Patagonia landscape is absolutely beautiful, rafting on the Futaleufu is the best in the world and the Bio Bio Camp is out of a dream. Lorenzo and his wife, Terri, were phenomenal hosts. They and all of the guides and staff were warm, welcoming and a complete wealth of knowledge on the region and rafting. The accommodations are perfect for enjoying nature. You are protected from the elements with comfortable beds and privacy, while also having the wonderful experience of effectively being outside the entire trip. One note, the bathrooms and showers are shared. They are clean and close to the platforms, but worth noting for packing. Headlamp/flash light is a must for getting around camp after dark, but remember the sun doesn't go down until about 10 pm, its summer in the southern hemisphere! Most days start with yoga, then breakfast. Time on the water, sometimes lunch at camp or out on the go. Then opportunities for more time on the water or hiking or relaxing - hot tub, sauna, a massage. "The hot tub is hot and the beers are cold!" We found spending time at camp in the afternoons very relaxing. Themed dinners, fantastic dessert every night! Maybe a campfire or another drink before tucking in for bed. The Futaleufu River Bio Bio trip is an adventure in paradise. If you are considering this vacation, book it now. We cannot recommend it enough! We hope to go back someday!

My first experience with Bio Bio Expeditions in Peru was simply perfection! I've traveled extensively with various adventure travel companies, and Bio Bio has been the best. We can't wait to join them for another adventure this December, this time in Chile and Argentina on the "Fu!"

5 star ratingA truly magical experience Our Bio Bio Futaleufu experience was nothing short of fantastic. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience we hope to repeat in the future. We took the trip as a combination of a honeymoon and family vacation in February 2022. Our group of seven ranged in age from mid 20s to late 60s and everyone had a wonderful experience. We felt welcomed with open arms, treated as both valued guests and long-time friends, and consistently safe and comfortable in what felt like an oasis from the turmoil of the world outside of camp.A few things in particular stood out as truly exceptional:First, the team. Every single person was both an extremely skilled and qualified hospitality and river professional and consummate host. Lorenzo and Terry were the fearless leaders of camp, Jenner was our soulful and intuitive trip leader, Alex and Derick our skilled river guides, Meerko our tireless safety kayaker and instructor, and a whole other cast of characters who were always ready to help or hangout that includes Shana, Davito, Valentine, Whitney, Sky, Garrett, Rio, Italo, Carlos, Edgar, and many others.Second, the camp. It truly felt like an oasis set in one of the most beautiful places in the world. From the hot tub on the river to the sauna to the tent cabins overlooking the river, it was a sight to behold. We felt lucky to call it home for a week. The love and craft that went into creating it were evident throughout. Third, the river. The Futaleufu and the other rivers we rafted and kayaked were not only world class rapids, but also breathtaking in their surrounding beauty. Our guides were experts at the river. We felt completely safe despite the massive whitewater that we passed through daily due to both the skill of our guides, but also all the layers of safety from catarafts to safety kayakers meant to ensure that if something did go amiss, there were multiple people ready to quickly intervene. Finally, the overall experience. From the delicious food to the easy transfers to yoga in the morning to wine tasting before departure, we were consistently impressed by the attention to detail put into every component of the experience. We would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone who was looking for an adventure and chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of day to day life while reconnecting with nature and other humans.
