About this trip
Costa Rica Multi Sport IVS
Costa Rica is Central America’s crown jewel, and this trip delivers three iconic adventures in one.
We begin in San José, then head to the Central Pacific coast to explore Manuel Antonio National Park, where jungle trails meet white-sand beaches and abundant wildlife. Choose your pace: adventure activities or pure beach time.
Next, we move inland to Rafiki Safari Lodge, a remote eco-luxury tent camp deep in the rainforest. Here, we tackle the Savegre River on an unforgettable whitewater rafting adventure and immerse ourselves in Costa Rica’s wild interior.
Our journey culminates on the Osa Peninsula at Copa de Árbol Beach & Rainforest Resort, gateway to Corcovado National Park and the Caño Island Biological Reserve, one of the most biologically intense places on Earth. Hike pristine rainforest, snorkel and dive crystal-clear waters, and explore untouched wilderness by land and sea.
2026 Speaker: Along the way, 12 RACE approved CE hours will be presented by Dr. Stan Marks from U.C. Davis.
Seminar Topics:
- Differentiation of feline IBD from intestinal lymphoma – does it really matter?

Itinerary
What to expect
Days 1–3: San José – Manuel Antonio
We arrive in San José before heading to Si Como No Resort, our base, which is perched above the Pacific Ocean in Manuel Antonio National Park. We explore the iconic national park—jungle trails, sloths, monkeys, and white-sand beaches—then the afternoons are yours: zipline, raft, kayak, surf, ATV, snorkel, fish… or simply relax poolside or at the beach.
Days 4–5: Savegre River & Jungle Camp
We head inland to the wild Savegre River, stopping for a home-cooked meal with a local family before hiking into Rafiki Safari Lodge, a luxury tent camp deep in the jungle. Think: wildlife everywhere, rocking chairs on elevated decks, and a legendary jungle waterslide.
The next day brings a whitewater rafting adventure (Class II–III), with waterfalls along the way. Or choose nature walks, birding, horseback riding, and night hikes.
Days 6–9: Osa Peninsula – Corcovado & Caño Island
A boat journey through mangroves delivers us to Copa de Árbol Beach & Rainforest Resort in Drake Bay. Over the next few days we explore Corcovado National Park, which is one of the most biologically intense places on Earth, and snorkel the pristine waters of Caño Island Biological Reserve.
There’s also time to choose your own adventure: hiking, wildlife tours, birding, diving, fishing, or simply enjoying this remote rainforest-meets-ocean paradise.
Day 10: Departure
A short flight returns us to San José in time for afternoon international departures

Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our trip! Bio Bio Expeditions really did run a class act with activities, guides, the hotels were amazing! A special shoutout to our guide Jorge Esquivel, who bent over backwards to help people with individual concerns/issues.
Could you please do an email list of the attendees, including the speaker, and send to me? We absolutely enjoyed every person on that trip and would love to keep contact.
Thanks again
Brandon Wichman DVM
This trip had a lot to offer just about everyone. There were educational walks (Tracie the “bug lady” is a DO NOT MISS!) and knowledgeable guides (Thank you Randall) at both lodges that were passionate about their country, the environment, and all that it has to offer. Oh, and that guy Jorge, who made everything run seamlessly.
From initial landing to take off — the trip was smooth and we really didn’t experience any difficulties other than a blown fuse for the AC on one bus. The food was amazing at every hotel, lodging was great (no AC at Rafiki), views were always stunning and there was always something to do — or you could opt to just relax and sit by the pool.
Words of caution if you get motion sickness: While every effort is made to give those with motion sickness their preferred seats, there is still a chance of motion sickness. We were in busses on rocky roads, we were in boats (sometimes the water is a little choppy), and small 12 seater planes for the in-country flights
Overall, a great trip as expected. This is my fourth adventure trip with IVS/BioBio — here’s looking forward to the fifth!
Justina Codde – Costa Rica IVS April 2022
Please comment on your overall impression of the trip. Did it meet your expectations?
Yes
What did you think about the quality and the knowledge of your guide staff?
Off the charts- fantastic!
Please share with us any improvements you would suggest for future trips.
While Covid remains an issue, I would recommend that people are advised to bring along a Covid home test kit. Didn’t think about it myself and it sure made a difference to be able to test and know I was negative after being exposed!
Would you consider traveling with Bio Bio Expeditions again? If so, which trips interest you most?
Yes, definitely! Machu Picchu
If you were to tell a friend or colleague about your overall experience on this trip, what would you say?
Definitely go!!!! La Paloma was absolutely amazing and wonderful. An adventure in itself just getting there!
Your comments about the trip are extremely valuable to us, and others who are considering this adventure. Please select “yes” if you consent to us using your positive comments on our website or trip information. Thank you!

Hello All
We (Gary and I) made it home – the entire 10 hour plane ride divided into 2 legs. It is refreshingly cool here – 26C (79F). I hope everyone had an uneventful journey home or onward in your travels.
Gary and I would like to thank Tory and Bio Bio for their hard work in organizing this trip and ensuring it ran as smoothly as it did. How wonderful to have a jungle adventure in luxury accommodations with gourmet meals! Bio Bio organized some great guides for us and the quality of the trip is to be commended.
But as we have all said already, what made this trip especially amazing were the people. I feel truly honoured to have met each and every one of you.
I will start editing photos soon and will share them when I finished (it may be a week or so as I head back to work on Saturday). As my camera is best suited to vistas and plants – there will mainly be photos of those. I am excited to see the animal photos.
Wishing everyone many more adventures!
