Huaypo Project: For over 15 years, we’ve reveled in the enchantment of the Huaypo lagoon. A couple years ago, we decided to take it upon ourselves and uplift the indigenous communities around Huaypo Lake. So far, this educational project has served over 200 children, providing them with high-speed internet, playgrounds, and cold-protective gear. Each guest embarking on this Lares Trek + One-Day Inca Trail journey will receive a certificate for their contribution.
Itinerary
What to expect
Days 1–2: Lima
Arrive in Lima, South America’s culinary capital. Enjoy optional coastal biking through Barranco and Miraflores, then dive into history with Huaca Pucllana, the Larco Museum (lunch included), and Lima’s UNESCO-listed historic center, including Casa de Aliaga.
Days 3–4: Sacred Valley
Fly to Cusco and descend into the Sacred Valley. Browse the colorful Pisac market, enjoy a welcome lunch at Hacienda Huayoccari, kayak Huaypo Lagoon, and explore the fascinating Moray terraces and Maras salt mines.
Days 5–6: Inca Trail & Machu Picchu
Hike the final stretch of the Inca Trail, entering Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate. Explore the iconic citadel, with optional climbs of Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, then return to Cusco aboard the scenic Vistadome train.
Day 7: Cusco
Visit Sacsayhuamán and Qenqo, then walk the last section of the ancient Inca Road into Cusco. Afternoon at leisure to explore or relax.
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to the airport, departing with unforgettable memories of Peru’s culture, history, and landscapes.
For our 2027 trip, we are adding a couple days to include the Amazon. Please see the itinerary for Days 8-10 below for the October 17-26, 2027 Trip.

Days 8–9: Puerto Maldonado & Amazon Lodge
Fly from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, then travel by land and boat to Refugio Amazonas. Explore the Tambopata Reserve with guided jungle activities (varies by weather). Refugio Amazonas is a remote rainforest lodge in a private reserve that offers nature, adventure, and science-based activities, and supports local communities through ecotourism.
Day 10: Departure
Return by boat to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima or other adventures in South America. (Please book outgoing flight for the afternoon.)

Inca trail permits sell out months in advance so please reserve your trip early. A scanned, clear copy of your passport is required with your deposit in order to secure your permit.
Optional Huayna Picchu Hike (permit availability dependent, let us know ASAP if you would like us to secure your permit!
Rising behind the ruins of Machu Picchu, the towering peak of Huayna Picchu dominates the landscape at 2,720 meters (8,920 feet). Known for its steep, narrow trails and dramatic staircases, Huayna Picchu offers a thrilling climb that begins just outside the citadel gates. Only accessible with a special permit, the ascent demands both physical endurance and a head for heights. After a challenging 1-2 hour hike/climb (it’s both), the summit delivers unparalleled views of the entire citadel below, framed by the Andean ridges.
Duration: 2.5 hours round trip (approx.)
Exertion Level: Moderate exertion. Very steep and narrow Inca steps along the way.
Notes: Not recommended for people with fear of heights or prone to vertigo.
