Rio Apurimac & Inca Trail Multi Sport
This exciting multi sport adventure begins in Cusco, where you explore the historic city and acclimatize before heading into the wild landscapes of the Andes.
The journey continues with a thrilling three day whitewater rafting expedition through the dramatic canyon of the Apurimac River, running powerful Class IV rapids and camping on sandy river beaches. From there travel to the Sacred Valley for an exhilarating mountain bike ride past traditional villages and ancient Inca ruins.
The adventure culminates with four unforgettable days trekking the legendary Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, arriving through the Sun Gate before spending a full day exploring the magnificent ruins. Afterward, return to Cusco by luxury train, completing an unforgettable journey through Peru’s landscapes, culture, and Inca history.
Itinerary
What to expect
Days 1–2: Cusco
Arrive in Cusco and settle into a beautifully restored colonial hotel in the heart of the historic city. Take time to acclimatize and explore the former capital of the Inca Empire. A guided half day tour visits the impressive ruins surrounding Cusco, including the massive stone fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Enjoy time to wander the lively markets, restaurants, and plazas of this vibrant Andean city.
Days 3–5: Apurimac River Rafting Expedition
Travel to the remote Apurimac River, one of the headwaters of the Amazon, for three thrilling days of whitewater rafting through a spectacular canyon nearly 10,000 feet deep. Paddle powerful Class III–V rapids with experienced guides and safety kayakers while camping on beautiful sandy beaches along the river.
Day 6: Sacred Valley Mountain Biking
Ride more than 35 miles through the stunning Sacred Valley on dirt roads and ancient paths. This mostly downhill ride passes traditional villages, Inca agricultural terraces at Moray, and the famous Maras salt pans, with incredible views of snow capped Andean peaks.
Days 7–10: Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
Begin the legendary Inca Trail trek, hiking through cloud forests, ancient ruins, and high mountain passes. Follow original Inca stone pathways past sites such as Runkurakay, Sayacmarca, and Winay Wayna before arriving at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate in the golden afternoon light.
Day 11: Machu Picchu and Return to Cusco
Spend a full day exploring Machu Picchu with your expert guide before boarding a scenic first class train through the Urubamba River canyon. Then head back to Cusco for a festive farewell dinner.
Day 12: Departure
Transfer to the airport for flights home, or continue exploring Peru.
