Cotahuasi River Canyon Rafting Adventure: May 17-27, 2019

By in Peru, Rafting Comments Off on Cotahuasi River Canyon Rafting Adventure: May 17-27, 2019

An adventure unlike any other, our Cotahuasi River Canyon rafting excursion is the ultimate in river fun, excitement, and history to stay with you for a lifetime.

There are rafting experiences and then there are rafting adventures. Considered one of the last remaining secrets in the rafting world, a trip down the exhilarating Cotahuasi River Canyon is definitely the latter – one of the most continuous, classic, and technical stretches of whitewater on the planet.Cotahuasi River Canyon rafting adventure

The trip that got us featured in the December 2001 issue of Outside Magazine, it’s fifty miles of non-stop class 4 and 5 whitewater hammering at a gradient of 60 feet per mile as we drop from put-in, downstream of 300-foot Sipia Falls, to the Pacific Ocean.

Cotahausi River Rafting Adventure Peru

Carving the second deepest canyon in the world (the first, the Colca, is a just few hundred miles away), the remote Cotahuasi snakes through an arid yet dramatic landscape on the southern coast of Peru. Run by raft for the first time less than twenty years ago, only a few expeditions have descended into its chasm and braved its mighty river. Revel in the stunning desert scenery and enjoy starry nights the likes of which you’ll be hardpressed to see anywhere else.

While the whitewater alone is reason enough to join us on this memorable adventure, add the historic hike to put-in on an original Inca footpath – a journey back in time as we explore and admire the hundreds of Inca and pre-Inca ruins and artifacts that litter the canyon – and this trip stands apart as an adventure entirely unto itself.Cotahuasi River Canyon rafting excursion

Having hosted the first ever archaeologist to enter the canyon, we were the beneficiaries of his valuable advice and guidance as to how best to admire while also protect these ancient treasures and this unique region steeped in history.

With time to visit magnificent Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a scenic drive in private Land Cruisers to the quaint town of Cotahuasi, and all the technical whitewater you can handle, this is an adventure of a lifetime.Cotahuasi River Canyon rafting adventure

Bucket List Rafting Adventure BONUS: the Incredible Upper Klamath Rafting Safari

By in Oregon, Rafting, Travel Comments Off on Bucket List Rafting Adventure BONUS: the Incredible Upper Klamath Rafting Safari

We recently compiled a Bucket List of rafting must-dos. Once we posted… it just seemed a little incomplete.

Really, any of our excursions could make it on to a bucket list. But, we felt this one deserves special mention – a quickie getaway to outdoor luxury that’s sure to thrill!

Our Upper Klamath Rafting Safari combines the luxury and comfort of glamping with rafting big summer flows down rapids that are over a football field long. Oh, did we mention mountain biking, trail running, inflatable kayaking, and fly fishing?
No? Well, read on:

Get ready for three days of big, infinitely memorable, whitewater!

A guide and guest fave, the Upper Klamath cuts a steep wilderness canyon through the Cascades of Southern Oregon providing one of the finest and most exciting rafting trips in the West.

Glamping Bush Camp

Uniquely scenic Upper Klamath has a high desert, old west character. The area is rich in old, Wild West history where old cabins, mines, and long-deserted Native American settlements dot the run. With rapids named straight out of a western, and a ride along an old stage coach track that winds through remote pine forests and beautiful meadows, this trip is as full of history as it is beautiful.

It’s also a major stop on the Pacific flyway, where sightings of bald eagles, osprey, and blue herons are a regular, yet always striking, occurrence.

The river has three different sections and begins with a fun class-III warm-up. This first stretch makes the Upper Klamath a recommended rafting trip for first-timers and experts alike. This is the opportunity to learn the finer points of river running before dropping into section two where the canyon constricts, and the river drops out of sight – the trip gets crazy! This is one of the most action-packed sections of river anywhere.

Ready for some time relaxing? This trip can be as active or easy-going and relaxed as you want it to be – totally up to you!

Time can be spent mountain biking, hiking or running on nearby trails; fly-fishing for rainbow, brook, and brown trout, bass, kokanee, and more; or simply relaxing in the sun. Enjoy cocktails and great food in the outdoor pub, revelling under the high desert sky.

Zambezi Explorer

Zambezi River Rafting Adventure

A once in a lifetime African adventure!

This beautiful and memorable twelve days will have you braving the epic rapids of the Zambezi River, exploring the game parks of Zimbabwe and Botswana, while getting your much needed rest in the comfort and elegance of safari lodges and camps.

Internationally acclaimed as one of the best locations for white water rafting, the mighty Zambezi, a quintessential African river – immense whitewater while being warm and friendly – meanders from Angola to the Indian ocean. It is best experienced towards the end of the dry season, August through October, where you can witness a variety of animals and game making their way to the riverbank to drink, swim, and frolic in the shallows.

We’ll visit Zimbabwe and Botswana, exploring the many facets of the Zambezi watershed in the region. There is a rich history of game viewing and preservation in this uniquely “veldt” like terrain.

With a highly evolved and protected national park system, the wildlife of Botswana is allowed to thrive and the elephant herds of Botswana and Zimbabwe are among the largest and most protected in Africa.

The opportunities to view game in this area are abundant and, at the same time, you’ll not find yourself overrun by the enthusiastic herds of tourists often found in East Africa.

This experience is truly spectacular. From your first dip into the Devil’s pool overlooking Victoria Falls, to watching elephants roam wild, to the massive rapids of the river, your rich and vibrant Zambezi adventure is sure to provide you with stories and memories to last a lifetime!
